Laura Kolbe M.D.

Assistant Professor of Medicine

Dr. Laura Kolbe is a writer, poet, and physician practicing medicine and medical ethics at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell and Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she is chief of medical ethics and associate program director of the internal medicine residency. She studied English at Harvard and Cambridge before earning her M.D. from the University of Virginia as an Edward W. Hook Scholar. Her debut poetry collection, Little Pharma (Pitt Poetry, 2021), won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize. Her poems and essays appear in The New Yorker, Harper’s, n+1, The Nation, and The New York Review of Books. She is also an editor of the Journal of General Internal Medicine and has held fellowships at MacDowell, the James Merrill House, and the Calderwood Foundation.
