The Program Competencies listed below apply to students entering the program in the Fall 2026 cohort. Program Competencies for previous cohorts can be found in the CL 2027 Student Handbook.
The PA Program’s competencies define the essential knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors students must demonstrate by the time they graduate. These competencies align with accreditation expectations and guide the design and evaluation of our curriculum. They collectively reflect the foundation necessary for entry-level PA practice, including clinical reasoning, communication, person-centered care, professionalism, interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-based practice.

Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to acute, chronic, urgent, and emergent patient-centered care of all persons across the lifespan. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- K1. Utilize biomedical and clinical science knowledge to distinguish normal from abnormal findings. (EOC Exam)
- K2. Identify causes, risk factors, preventive measures, epidemiology, clinical presentations, and management of common conditions. (EOC Exam)
Demonstrate effective exchange of information and collaboration with patients and members of the health care team. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- IIC1. Conduct effective patient interviews using clear, empathetic, and patient centered communication strategies. (OSCE)
- IIC2. Accurately and concisely document and present clinical information. (OSCE)
- IIC3. Communicate and collaborate effectively with patients and interprofessional team members to support shared decision-making. (OSCE)
Demonstrate a commitment to practicing medicine in ethically and legally appropriate ways and emphasize professional maturity and accountability for delivering safe and high-quality care to patients and populations. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- PB1. Demonstrate cultural humility, respect, and professional integrity in patient encounters. (OSCE)
- PB2. Recognize legal and regulatory aspects of PA professional practice. (EOC Exam)
Provide person-centered care that includes patient and setting-specific evaluation. Ensure healthcare management that is evidence-based, supports patient safety, and advances health equity. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- CRPSA1. Synthesize clinical data to diagnose and manage health conditions. (OSCE)
- CRPSA2. Select and interpret diagnostic studies to identify disease states and guide clinical decision-making. (OSCE)
Demonstrate appropriate application of clinical judgment, technical procedures, and evidence-informed interventions to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- CTS1. Accurately select and perform physical examination maneuvers ensuring patient comfort. (OSCE)
- CTS2. Perform clinical procedures safely and competently. (Technical Skills Testing)
