The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS)
Weill Cornell Medical College Chapter
Purpose: The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) is guided by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s vision statement: “Healthcare will be dramatically improved by placing human interests, values and dignity at the core of teaching and practice.”
As such, the Weill Cornell Medical College Chapter consists of select medical students, residents, and faculty who exemplify the humanistic ideals championed by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. Members are recognized for their commitment to:
- Integrity
- Dedication
- Compassion
- Altruism
- Respect
- Empathy
- Curiosity
Student members from the Weill Cornell chapter work collaboratively with faculty members to foster a culture where humanism is the cornerstone of medicine.
Scope: Members are role models for humanistic care, providing:
- Mentorship to peers
- Reflection to consider the further integration of humanism into clinical care
- Acknowledgement of community members who promote and embody humanism
- Outreach to meet the needs of the local community.
- Advocacy to reduce barriers in access to care
Selection Process: Peer-nominated and faculty-reviewed medical students are selected via official GHHS guidelines and inducted into GHHS (15-20% of the total graduating class). Members serve a one-year term until graduation in which they work on various projects related to humanism in medicine.
