M.D.-M.B.A.

Weill Medical College of Cornell University has partnered with The Johnson School of Management at Cornell University to offer medical students the option of earning an M.B.A. degree in just 12 months. The M.D.-M.B.A. dual degree is designed for students who want to pursue a career in medicine and business, preparing them for leadership roles in major health organizations, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, and other health-related businesses.

Dual degree students will begin their program in the medical college, and take a one-year leave of absence between the third and fourth years. They then join the Johnson School's Accelerated M.B.A. (AMBA) program in May of their third year of medical school, and complete their M.B.A. requirements by the following May. An M.B.A. degree is granted after a student completes their fourth year of medical school and obtains an M.D. degree.

Please note that third year medical students must complete their Surgery and Medicine clerkships before they begin the accelerated M.B.A. program in May.

Medical students in their fourth year may apply for the Accelerated M.B.A. program, which they will begin in May of their fourth year. They will complete their fourth year after completing the AMBA program the following May.

Students interested in the M.D.-M.B.A. program will apply to the AMBA program through the Johnson School, which is responsible for all admission decisions. Please visit Johnson School Admissions (Ithaca) and Cornell Tech MBA Admissions (Roosevelt Island) for application requirements and deadlines. One additional requirement not listed on the Johnson School admissions page, is that Weill Cornell students must request a letter of current academic standing from the Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs at the time of their application submission.

Please note that the GMAT examination is no longer required for Weill Cornell students to apply. During the application process, students will use the date of the application submission as the date of their GMAT score (the date cannot be left blank).

M.D.-MEng

In partnership with Cornell University’s Engineering program, WCM medical students can pursue an advanced degree in the Master of Engineering (MEng) program. This program, conducted at Cornell’s Ithaca campus, is designed for medical students to complete between their third and fourth year of M.D. studies, and the program would start after Areas of Concentration Block 1. The MEng degree requires 30 credits, including coursework and a significant hands-on project, which may take place on-campus or off-campus at a start-up, hospital, or other institution.

M.D. students completing an MEng degree will obtain a fast-paced, high-level exposure to a unique combination of technical knowledge, application experience, and professional development, all suitable for a career at the intersection of medical practice and technology development. The application deadline for this program is April 1.

Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program

The M.D.-Ph.D. Program allows outstanding applicants to obtain both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in preparation for careers as physician scientists. Weill Cornell Medical College, Rockefeller University, and Sloan Kettering Institute comprise a tri-institutional group of world-renowned biomedical research institutions on contiguous campuses.

Students in the Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program command two complementary skills: advanced understanding of biomedical science and research, and outstanding grounding in human biology and clinical medicine. Students experience the excitement of modern biomedical science through a rigorous, yet flexible, specially tailored course of study, and unrestricted access to experienced mentors in leading research laboratories.

The faculties at Weill Cornell, Rockefeller, and Sloan Kettering are among the most distinguished medical and biomedical scientists in the world, including numerous Nobel laureates. The three institutions are also the home of more than 35 members of the National Academy of Sciences. The size of the graduate faculty ensures that there is broad expertise in all of the major biomedical research disciplines. The quality and size of the program faculty and the limited number of students in the program ensure that the students will receive outstanding research training as well as substantial contact with their advisors and other faculty members.

All students accepted into the Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program receive full-tuition scholarships and stipends to cover living expenses for the entire period of study.

For applications and further information, please refer to the Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. Program in New York City.
