Medical College

Prior to Academic Year 2010-2011, courses in Years 1 and 2 were Honors (H):

Health Sciences for Physician Assistants

Graduates Prior to 1993: Transcripts have been standardized and updated. Therefore, a transcript for a graduate prior to 1993 may show a course without a grade. If a course is listed and a grade is missing for a graduate prior to 1993, this indicates that the course was not offered during the time that the graduate was a student at Cornell.

Prior to 1993 the grading system was as follows:

Didactic courses

  • A = 90-100
  • B = 80-89
  • C = 70-79
  • F = Below 70 or Honors, Pass, and Fail were used.
Graduate School of Medical Sciences
Doctor of Philosophy Programs

The Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences does not utilize a credit per course or hour system. Satisfactory student work is reflected in the award of residence units in compliance with the Code of Legislation of the school, in which a residence unit is defined as corresponding to one half academic year of full-time study satisfactorily completed. A minimum of 6 residence units must be accumulated in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy degree.

Prior to October 1970, grades were recorded as follows:

  • A (93-100)
  • B (84-92)
  • C (75-83)
  • F for work unacceptable for credit

From October 1970 until September 1997, grades were recorded as follows:

  • E = Excellent (equivalent to A)
  • S = Satisfactory (equivalent to B)
  • U = Unsatisfactory (equivalent to F)
  • I or Inc = Incomplete
  • A or Aud = Audit
  • W = Withdrawn (no grade given)
